Days Gone By

"Everything is quiet these days, I guess. These damn zombies, and the people aren't much nicer." I said.


I was just thinking about how horrible they could be. I had to put them down before. And it wasn't something I liked to think about. Some of these people were desperate. Some of them just didn't give a crap about people, and needed a meal, or stole, or even-- but that's not something we needed. It was best to just avoid people like them. The world was not a good one. I wondered what would happen if the zombies outlived the last of us. Would they start to die too? They had no means of producing children, they had no other food supply. What would they do without the people?

"Scott, if there were no people, what would the goddamn zombies do?"

"I don't know, Henry." I replied while backing up the car, and turning it round. "Maybe die." I then drove down the road we came down from, and went left, going the other way. The right street would just take us back to the warehouse, and further away from home. After six more minutes, we were back, we left the car outside again, and walked up the stairs to the 8th floor where out home was. I opened the front door, closed it, and locked. I had done that so many times, that I didn't even need to think about doing it when I came in, I just did.

We were back, it already felt much better to be safe in here and know the people we loved were safe as well. I went into the kitchen and had a can of beans and some peas with it, and when I was done I sat down on the couch next to Mike, and had some of my coffee. Scott was doing something. We had enough food to last for a while, but I still wondered who the man was who had saved us at the supermarket.

Daniel put the shotgun and hatchet on the table next to him and picked up the child. He carried back into the main room of his hut, where the tv resided and placed him on the table in front of him.

"What do you think we should do, Henry? We've stayed hiding in here over a week now. Should we continue like this for the rest of our lives?" I asked him.

"Yeah I guess." I answered, spooning out some beans.

"You really wouldn't mind doing this forever?"

"I'm just gonna eat beans, man." I answered.

"There might be a safe zone out of the city, like the news talked about before everything got worse. We could move there."

"But this place is safe, man."

"But we don't know how much longer it will be."

I just ate more beans. After some time munching them, I answered.

"It will be some time, nothing will happen. We're safe." I said, thinking about it.

"I've also been thinking that we should slowly clean the streets from the creatures, so we can go out more, without getting worried about being eaten. I know Jess doesn't want to stay up in this flat everyday."

"Yeah that sounds good." I said, chewing.

It was the next day, me and Henry were walking along the roads of the city close to our block, clearing the area of the creatures, because it was near to winter, it was like they became even more slower, making it more easy for us to get by them or kill them if we had to.

I saw some zombies and fired my gun at them for a while.

"Scott, how is it today?" I asked, walking around the street.

"They are deffiantly slower than before, I think it's because of the cold weather. And there also seems to be less of them." I explained.

"We can just shoot them then and maybe run them over and stuff. That's about it Scott, we're alright." I said.


I walked up to a zombie and shot it in the head and it died. Then we walked around for a while, in the cold daylit air, minding our business, just killing these idiot zombies, with some good bullets to their heads. It wasn't feeling too bad to do so, they didn't seem to be hurt by it, I guess, and we were saving them from being bad guys. All in all, it was a nice experience, I guess.

"Scott, do you think these zombies remember us from when they were people?" I asked.

"I don't know," I said as I ripped one of their heads of with a fireman's axe. "I hope not, it wouldn't feel right if they remembered us. It would be like killing another survivor."

"Yeah, I think so too, it'd just be really sad and all." I said, punching a zombie in the head.

"I think we should search for a safe zone out of the city, Henry. Leave Jess and that guy Mark behind in the flat, and go by ourselves. Just in case it's more dangerous out there. Or do you still want to stay locked up in that flat?" I asked.

"I'll stay here, look for my partner, you go and find help for the others I'm gonna protect while you're gone." I said.

I shall join this as a zombie, a zombie am I.
